Collective Eye Filmmaker Spotlight Series is a unique opportunity to hear directly from our filmmakers. The series provides a forum to learn about our filmmakers as well as get involved with relevant topics for each film.
What inspired your subject choice?
When I learned of the secrets my family had been keeping for over 20 years, I knew there was an opportunity to know them better and learn where I and so many others had come from.
How do you feel documentaries are important as educational tools?
Documentaries reveal new worlds to us by bringing them to where we are. We learn to see the world through the eyes of others. Those new perspective allow us to see the world newly.
What was the most interesting and/or favorite part of making this film?
Seeing how bringing truth forward changes relationships was both inspiring and heart warming. This is why we continue to bring forth conversations of honesty where there is silence.
What do you hope people walk away with after seeing your film?
People are reminded how important their family is. They become present to what generosity others have shared so they can be great. People also have a whole new respect for what it is to come from a foreign place and become an American.
