The latest deranged delight by French absurdist Quentin Dupieux, Keep An Eye Out is a breakneck-paced cop comedy that packs more laughs into its 73 breezy minutes than some filmmakers manage in their entire careers.

Belgian funnyman Benoît Poelvoorde (Man Bites Dog) is Commissaire Buran, a good, bad cop interrogating Fugain, (Grégoire Ludig), an average Joe who discovered a dead body outside his apartment building. As the film begins, Fugain must, on an empty stomach, explain how and why he happened to leave home seven times in one night before coming across a corpse in a puddle of blood. Since he’s the investigation’s only suspect, Fugain’s anxiety is already sky-high when Buran leaves him alone with Philippe, a one-eyed rookie cop with bizarre speech patterns and a few minutes to live. Bloody, batshit hijinks ensue, and before long, we’re in Buñuel territory.

Between the opening sequence, when a man in just red briefs conducts a philharmonic orchestra in the open air, and the triple-meta denouement, Dupieux’s whip-smart script disregards audience expectations, the fourth wall, and the laws of time and space. You’ll never look at a protractor or an oyster the same way again.

“"Ever-unpredictable...a film that is constantly in mesmerizing and darkly comedic flux." ” – Indiewire

“Equal parts Michel Gondry, Tex Avery and the Coen brothers. A fun exercise in genre-bending...well-orchestrated and amusing to watch.” – Hollywood Reporter

About the filmmaker

Passionate about cinema since the age of twelve, Quentin Dupieux discovered the world of the image and the realization when he found an old camera which serves him to make his first res visual experiences. Also a music lover, it is alongside Michel GONDRY that he really begins in the business, when he makes his first music videos.

Under the pseudonym of Mr. Oizo, Dupieux composes electro music and becomes from 1999 a major figure of the French touch movement.

Encouraged by this success, he decided to pass behind the camera during 2001, and produced his first medium-film titled Nonfilm, in which he directed Another French Electro artist, SÃ © bastien TELLIER. This first production confirms Quentin Dupieux's appeal for film, and in 2006 comes the comedy Steak (2007), a long-film whose main roles are held by the duo of Eric and Ramzy comic. Unclassifiable work, mingling cynicism, grotesque and social satire, the film is a critical and commercial failure.

Continuing in his fast-paced world, Dupieux writes in 2008 the movie Rubber (2010), in the horrifying scary scenario. In 2015, comes out on the screens Reality (2015), with Alain CHABAT in the title role. Coming from a 2008 scenario that the author abandons a time, the long-film follows the path of a filmmaker obsessed by the idea of making his first film da horror.
