“We transgender are the revolution!” Indianara Siqueira, trans activist and politician, admonishes her political party for ousting her days before the 2018 Brazilian national elections. In the same election cycle extreme-Right candidate Jair Bolsonaro is a forerunner for president of the republic. Indianara is the mother of a homeless shelter and community center for trans sex workers called Nem House in the center of Rio de Janeiro. Nem House is a squat and facing the threat of eviction Indianara occupies a colonial palace near Nem House to bargain with the city to save the house. As Brazilian democracy crumbles around her she fights to save her community from the uncertain streets.

About the filmmaker

Adam Golub is an Israeli-American filmmaker. His shorts screened at the San Francisco Frameline LGBT FF in 2006 and 2007. He’s told stories of young dancers, shot countless flash mobs, and reported on the water-logged art galleries in post-Sandy New York City. Adam has a particular interest in arts and culture as a measure of a successful and robust society. Likewise, his participation in activist movements against Israeli occupation has reaffirmed his desire to report on injustice in an attempt to foster a more equitable world. He completed his B.A. at UC, Berkeley in Social Theory and recently completed his Masters of Science at Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism in the Documentary Film Program. His latest work is the documentary YOUR MOTHER'S COMFORT (2020).
