The film tells the story of Brandon and Royal, two men changing lives through firefighting. Brandon and Royal met fighting wildfires while imprisoned in California’s penal system. Now, despite institutional barriers, personal financial pressure, and mounting environmental dangers, they are training other formerly incarcerated firefighters to become professionals and join their new, self-owned department.

About the filmmaker
Kenzie is an executive producer at Blue Chalk and has produced and directed projects for clients such as Time, Washington Post Creative Group, The Foundry, and Magnolia Network. Before joining the Blue Chalk team, she worked in visual communications roles at The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International and Denver Westword. She has a photojournalism degree from the University of Missouri and is a certified type II wildland firefighter.
